The Discovery Call
The very first step in our process at KNC is the Discovery Call. This is a 15 minute call to introduce us to your project, get to know one another and see if we are a good fit. During this call we will also discuss timelines, process, overall budget and scope of work. This is a great time to ask any questions or concerns that you may have. We want you to feel as comfortable as possible!
The Deep Dive
If all the stars align in our Discovery Call, the next step is the Deep Dive. This is a one hour, in person meeting to review your project more in detail. During our time together, we will be walking through the entire scope of work, digging down into your style, and walking through all of the areas of the project. We will give some overall advice on the direction we are thinking for the project and how we see it coming together.
Cost: 200 (Waived on new builds and full home renovations)
The Proposal
Taking our conversation from the Deep Dive, we will put together a detailed proposal for you customized to your project. Just as no client is the same, no project is the same. The proposal is based on your individual wants and needs and is truly tailored to you. Unlike many designers we do not work hourly but instead on a per project basis. This means you will have complete design fees up front as well as a comprehensive list of everything that it includes. Want to add on more later? Not a problem, we can add on services as the project progresses.
The Measure
Once the proposal is approved we hit the ground running with a site measure. We come to the home and measure all of the spaces that we are designing in our scope of work. In the case of new builds or complete home renovations, bringing us in prior to architectural plans has many benefits. We will work with the architect and builder to ensure every detail is met and make sure your vision comes to life. We love being part of the team from the start to ensure a great flow and ample communication. If there are existing architectural plans, do not worry!! We can jump right in and will be in communication with the architect and builder to ensure we have all of the necessary measurements and documentation needed to execute your vision so the whole team is on the same page.
The Inspiration
We want to make your dream a reality and Inspiration photos are a very important step to the process when we are creating a space for you! Everyone’s vocabulary is a bit different, so what may be “modern” to one person, may be “transitional” to another! This is why we ask for inspiration photos to get a grasp on what your style is and what you envision your home to look and feel like. We go through these inspiration photos with you to get an idea on what you like about certain spaces and what you may not like. Have a Pinterest board? A simple way to share these is to invite us to the board. We love collaborating and seeing all your inspiration!
IMAGINE
The Layout

At KNC functionality is first and foremost the most important thing in our design process. Whether it be a kitchen remodel, or an entire home, we want to be sure that every space functions at it’s best for you and your family. This is why “The Layout” is the first step in the design process. A beautiful space is a useless space unless it functions well! We walk through your day to day, what is important to you and your family and how you run your everyday life. We then give you suggestions based on experience and present layout options for review. We talk through these together to create the perfect layout tailored to you with functionality at the forefront.
The Budget Discovery

Although budget may not be the sexiest part of a build or remodel, a project is not possible without one. At KNC it is important to us that we are cognizant of your budget and ensure that we are giving you exactly what you are expecting. This is where “The Budget Discovery” comes into play. During “The Budget Discovery” we will review all of your spaces being designed and the finishes going in. From there, we will determine how much you would like to spend on each aspect of the space. As we do not have any influence on labor costs we focus on finish materials. We give you parameters on how much items cost and help you determine where you fall into place based on priorities. There are times that your builder may have given you allowances already. In that case we will review them with you to give you an idea of what type of materials fall within those allowances. Budget is all about individual wants, priorities and expectations.

The Mood Boards

The next step in the design process is “The Mood Boards.” This presentation includes mood boards for each space being designed. At KNC our mood boards consist of colors, textures and finishes based off of “The Inspiration” and “The Deep Dive.” We walk through our ideas with you for the space incorporating all of these finishes and the overall mood and feel for the space. We take any feedback, adjust accordingly and hit the ground running into “The Selections”

The Selections:

During “The Selections” we take all of our information from the Inspiration, Layout, Budget Discovery, Mood Boards and make selections for your spaces. During this phase of the design process, we do all of the heavy lifting by sourcing materials from our exclusive trade vendors and designing any custom pieces tailored to your space. We source all materials ranging from cabinet color down to tile trim pieces. If there are any unique finds or out of the box bold choices that we see or feel would work with the space, we collaborate with you to get feedback before moving that particular item into the final design.

The Presentation:

This is the fun part. All of our groundwork has led us to “The Presentation.” This in person meeting is the full design presentation of your designed spaces. During this presentation we will review your spaces in detail and walk you through every finish that has been selected for the space. At KNC we know visualizing can be challenging, which is why we always provide renderings of the finished designed spaces. Along with renderings, we bring in samples of the actual materials we selected for the designs. Anything we are not able to get in person, we give detailed information on so you feel confident about every selection and every decision. From here we take any additional feedback and fine tune the final designs.

DESIGN
The Documents

Ever wonder how you take your vision and bring it into existence? It is all about communication. This is why “The Documents” are so important. Once your designs are finalized this is where our expertise and communication skills come into play. We create documents specifying each and every material selection in your space. This includes top down drawings and elevations of each space being designed. We also make a materials schedule detailing out each material selection to coordinate with the specifications. We then sit down with your builder or contractor and review everything in detail to answer any questions. These documents communicate the vision and execution of the design. Our goal is to eliminate any questions to ensure a smooth project.

Procurement

Ordering, tracking and managing materials can be very time consuming (trust us). This is why we offer a procurement service in addition to design. Each builder works very differently. Some order materials and some do not. In the case your builder does not order finish materials, that leaves the task with you, which can be very overwhelming. During procurement, we order from our trusted industry partners, track these materials and make sure they are on site for you. We handle any issues that may arise during the process making it a very hands off process for you. If you would like to order your materials yourself that is not a problem! In “The Documents” you receive a full materials schedule of all selections. *In the case of furniture, KNC does all procurement as it is necessary due to custom pieces and sourcing from trade vendors

The Site Checks

At KNC we want this process to go as well and smoothly as you do! That is why during construction we will do site checks. Each project is different and has different needs. During our scope of work conversation we will discuss how many site checks we will be doing based on your unique project needs. During The Site Checks we will walk through construction to make sure that all the design is going to plan. If there are any issues that arise see we bring them directly to you and the builder to be resolved. Having our eyes on the project is important for the overall outcome! We will be there until the final touches are done.

The Toast!

We are done! Time to pop the champagne. During the entire process we become very close with our clients and we love sending you off with a toast to congratulate you on a job well done!
